25th February 2021

Congratulations for being shortlisted! Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m Wang Ruyan. I’m 21 years old and from Shandong, Qingdao, in China. I Study at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology.

Tells us about your submission?

Today, Chinese traditional culture is loved by people all around the world. My design concept is taken from  traditional Chinese culture- the dancing lion. In traditional Chinese culture, people consider it as a symbol of courage and strength.

What are your thoughts working with leather?

The malleable features of tanned leather was used to create the 3D effect of the lion’s head, I used mainly tanned leather with rivets for this. At the same time, tanned leather also has the characteristic that allows carving, therefore I was able to create detail on the body.
